Audio Tec, Vivid, and Vega Linear hi-fi speakers were all products of small-scale speaker manufacturer Inter Tec, based in Edmonton, AB. They were the house brand at regional hi-fi retail chain International Stereo. Although InterTec produced many classic house brand speakers, using cheap and nasty components in equally dismal enclosures, they also made some seriously some up-market products. InterTec built some of their own woofers in 200, 250 and 300mm (8, 10, and 12") sizes, which were quite respectable, but all-too frequently teamed them with their sad paper-coned midrange, and cone tweeters, or piezo horns. In the 1970s and 1980s, their performance/value ratio was competitive enough, but they have not aged gracefully.

Top-of-the-line Vega Linear speakers used Tannoy HPD dual concentric drivers, unfortunately housed in enclosures that were far too small, compromising their sonic potential. The systems were well built, and finished in real walnut veneer.

Almost all of InterTec's speakers suffered from miserable (or absent) crossovers, built from cheap electrolytic capacitors and tiny inductors. Upgrading the better models is beneficial but tricky, since they assembled the networks with hot-glue, on the inside of the baffle, prior to enclosure assembly, making subsequent access difficult. Repair or replacement of driver components is typically cost effective, so they are worth keeping unless the cabinetry is damaged. InterTec built speakers may be confused with 'white van speakers'since many shared the same design philosophy - good looking cheap speakers.
